Google Gadget Ventures

Google Gadget Ventures: "Develop new gadgets with support from Google.

Google Gadget Ventures is a new Google pilot program dedicated to helping developers create richer, more useful Google Gadgets. Inspired by the success of iGoogle, which has been driven by the creation by 3rd-party developers of a broad range of gadgets, Gadget Ventures provides two types of funding:

1. Grants of $5,000 to those who’ve built gadgets we’d like to see developed further. You’re eligible to apply for a grant if you’ve developed a gadget that’s in our Google gadgets directory and gets at least 250,000 weekly page views. To apply, you must submit a one-page proposal detailing how you’d use the grant to improve your gadget.
2. Seed investments of $100,000 to developers who’d like to build a business around the Google gadgets platform. Only Google Gadget Venture grant recipients are eligible for this type of funding. Submitting a business plan detailing how you plan to build a viable business around the gadgets platform is a required part of the seed investment application process.

It’s our hope that Google Gadget Ventures will give developers the opportunity to create a new generation of gadgets to benefit users.

How to apply

This program is restricted to people who have developed a Google gadget in our Google gadgets directory that generates at"

Testing "The Biggest Business In The World" On Yahoo Groups! ;-)

Recently, the playful/quasi-serious side of me reserved the domain
name www.TheBiggestBusinessInTheWorld.com

Along with several dozen other "optimism-centric" domain names, I
reserved that name because, frankly, I believe that the business of
business is encouraging humans to be better at being human. (We can
talk about the meaning of that at a later date.)

I believe that if more business realized that there is a LOT of
business in encouraging one another, we'd well, um, be more
encouraged! :-)

Because I'm much better at conceiving and naming things than actually
building them, I thought I'd point that domain name at a Yahoo Group I
created. I decided on Yahoo Groups because I'm so familiar with
them.

Well, tonight, Yahoo just announced its new BETA for Yahoo Groups.

And so, "The Biggest Business In The World" is actually part of
Yahoo's BETA! :-)

Though I'm seriously interested in keeping this group focused on
encouragement and inspiration and hope and optimism and motivation and
joy and laugher and solutions to the challenges that discourage us,
I'd really be encouraged if you helped to test it out! Of course, if
you have lots of optimistic, encouraging, hopeful things to share,
that would be the best of the best kind of test! :-)

"Employment Solves Problems"

Thursday, June 21, 2007

What Type Of Problem(s) Do You Solve? - E. g., Chief Employment Officer? Chief Encouragement Officer?

What type of problem(s) do you solve?

Think of something: We network ONLY to SOLVE problems.

And if it is the case that we network only to SOLVE problems, isn't it helpful to help each other know the answer to  this most basic question when we invite them to connect with us on Linkedin?

The reason I mention this is that there are some great people who are great at inviting us and, thus, they solve a networking problem for some of us: whom to invite.

BUT...

BUT...

BUT...

Some of the very people who solve one problem for us CAUSE another problem:  they leave us not knowing what problems they solve avocationally or even PROFESSIONALLY.

In other words: We don't know what drives them.   We don't know what they do.  We don't know what problems they specialize in solving.   We don't know what problems we can solve, together.

Avocationally, I like promoting myself as a "Chief Encouragement Officer".   I like that as an avocational title because it helps me "accentuate the positive" - all day long.   For me, just thinking of the term "Chief Encouragement Officer" has a bi-directional benefit: It helps me remember my preferred purpose for my discussion groups.   And the title helps encourage me, too.   (And yes, Chief Encouragement Officers need encouragement, too!)

Professionally, as a Recruiter for client companies and as a Coach for individual job seekers, I solve employment problems.   Thus, professionally, I like considering myself a "Chief Employment Officer".   And I like doing that because "Employment Solves Problems".

Those who help us understand what problems they solve help solve the decision-making problem of connecting with them.

Linkedin Ecademy Is Now WHEN: "Wright Hand Employment Networking"

"When in the course of human events..."

That opening line is one of the most symphonically beautiful pieces of literature ever written in human history.

And, I believe a case can be made for the fact that the word "WHEN" is one of the most beautiful words in all of human history.   Not just because of the word's euphony but, more so, because of import.   What it means when we say "WHEN" means a lot.

Thus, I'm happy to announce that I've changed the name and purpose of the former Linkedin Ecademy group to "Wright Hand Employment Networking" or, acronymically "W.H.E.N."

On Wright Hand Employment Networking our whole business is the business of employment.

Helping each other find employment.

Helping each other find employees.

Helping each other find the help we need to find the employment we need.

Employment.

That's what we'll talk about and that's what we'll work on here on Wright Hand Employment Networking.

If you are a seeking a job, put your contact information in the Job Seeker database.

If you are seeking employees, put your contact information in the Recruiter database.

If you supply employment services, put your contact information in the Employment Services database.

If you are new to the list, introduce yourself, and search the W.H.E.N. archives.

The networking part of Wright Hand Employment Networking is about building.

That's simple enough.

But what is too rarely emphasized in discourses on the subject of employment networking is the element of TIME.

Remember this: WHEN you act has a major impact on "Your Employment Success". (YES)
